This annual event began in the 2012-2013 school year. Students and their family come together for one night and explore different reading techniques. On the smart board, they participated in reading activities, had the chance to read stories, listen to the tales of Johnny Appleseed, and sing along to some favorite folk stories. This event also encourages students to start reading away from their desks. This was done in stations showing how this type of learning can increase attention and retention of the material.
The seeds of growth garden also partook in this event. Students and families were able to go outside and explore the garden in which they exert physical activity and knowledge to grow plants. The vegetables grown from the garden were given out and eaten by the visitors. It provided tomatoes, peppers, and egg plants for everyone to try. The children were able to finally taste the products that they had been growing for months.
